Azure GPUs are now on Frame!

AWS made cloud graphics a reality when it launched its virtual workstations in 2013. The g2.2xlarge instance was impressive, powered by the first generation of NVIDIA GRID GPUs (K520). Over the last 3 years, Frame delivered millions of sessions with cloud GPUs to users around the world (in 206 countries to be exact!)

This week, Microsoft Azure is joining the club of public clouds offering workstation-class graphics, and it is improving on AWS graphics performance. This Thursday, December 1, the new N-Series instances become generally available, powered by the second generation NVIDIA GRID GPUs (M60). Frame and Microsoft worked close together to support N-Series instances. Read more about it on Microsoft's blog, or contact us to get early access to Azure GPUs on Frame.

Graphics smackdown: Azure vs AWS

For a technical deep dive on how the new Azure instances perform compared to AWS, check out our our in-depth review. Some highlights:

"On average, the new Azure NV6’s CPU is about 20% faster than the AWS g2.2xlarge for single-core tasks, and about 40% faster for multi-core tasks... The new GPU (NVIDIA GRID M60) adds a solid 35% bump up in graphics performance over the one on AWS (over NVIDIA GRID K520). The real highlight for the NV6 is a massive 56GB of RAM (vs 16GB of RAM on the g2.2xlarge) and 8GB of GPU RAM (vs 4GB on the g2.2xlarge), so you’re unlikely to run out of memory."

ANSYS, Frame, and Microsoft make it easy to run simulation in the cloud

At Frame, we’re on a mission to let anyone access the best creative tools, without barriers. That’s why it was exciting to partner with ANSYS, Microsoft Azure, and Cornell University to empower thousands of students to learn engineering simulation from the cloud for free. We love engineering, learning, and MOOCs!

If CFD and FEA are your thing, check out the ANSYS blog to learn more about our partnership.

Frame for AEC

Panzura and Frame: cloud storage meets cloud app delivery

One of the biggest challenges for AEC firms when working with large files is synchronizing them between multiple offices. To give designers and architects instant access to large files in the cloud, Frame partnered with Panzura, the leading cloud connected NAS provider. Check out how apps on Frame connect to Panzura cloud storage to let users work with large data sets from any device, anywhere.

What they said

Frame is a Gartner Cool Vendor for 2016

Gartner recently named Frame a Cool Vendor for 2016 in endpoint computing. We think Gartner is cool too! What they like: “an elastic, pay as you go unified workspace service that is compatible with any HMTL5 browser without the need for plugins. Frame accesses a workspace hosted on IaaS with the ability to integrate with cloud storage services and connect to on-premises file shares.”

To learn more about Frame, schedule time with one of our Frame specialists.

Google Nik Collection: not only free, but "install-free"

Nik Collection is a suite of seven awesome desktop apps for photo editing. Last week, Google made a splash by dropping its price from $149 to completely free (not an April Fools' joke, and way more useful that Gmail's new "Send and Mic Drop" feature).

With Nik software free (as in beer), Frame is removing the last real obstacle to using it from wherever inspiration seems to strike you. Skip the 600MB download and check out Nik from any browser, even on a Chromebook.

Need to run Revit, AutoCAD, and Sketchup for your multi-site office?

Does your company struggle to keep things coordinated between different sites, while working with large design files over a slow VPN connection? Have you looked at VDI solutions, like Citrix, VMware, but are put off by high start-up cost, high IT management overheads, and horror stories of abandoned VDI implementation?

Frame is a great solution for your flexible AEC and BIM workspace. Your staff can work seamlessly on any project, regardless of which office they are in, or even outside the office. As a bonus, Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD are fully certified on Frame.
